Primary Title Notes: 1981 Newark Museum Catalogue
Inscriptions:
Verso pedestal l.r. "C.B. IVES. FECIT/ ROMAE"

Provenance: possibly given by Roland Inslee Hopper, of East Orange. There is a file but no accession information about the transaction and how it proceeded; the papers dating to 1923. A card of the donor's in the file is noted "C.B. Ives Rome" and there is a letter from Mr. Hopper to JCD on Oct. 16 referring to a "piece of marble belonging to my father, the late Inslee A. Hopper of Newark." It is clearly referred to by museum staff as "a statue" and is not just a block of marble.
