Inscriptions:
"58-270" twice on bottom, ink and pencil, collectors' accession number; 1318 in pencil on bottom, the auction lot number from the FIRST Charles Green auction of 1951. "NJM" in pencil on bottom--initials of Nancy Jacobs Martin, owners' daughter, who once claimed this piece for her own, before museum was approached.

Marks:
Raised ribbon mark on bottom: "U.S.P." in upper section, "No. 10" in right section (for Paul and Virginia pattern); "12" in lower section (for size: ref to English green version of this with same number pressed in)

Provenance: Purchased by Grace and Robert Jacobs from Benedict Jarmel, Red Hook, NY, 3/19/58, who in turn had purchased it from the first Charles Green auction, NYC, 1951. The Jacobs' paid a dealer price of $36 (based on $45 retail price). Original invoice from Jarmel is in object file.
